Jos Luhukay has refused to be drawn on speculation linking Sheffield Wednesday with a move for Michael Hector, the Chelsea defender who spent last season on loan to Hull City.

Asked if he could shed any light on the rumour at Friday’s pre-Ipswich Town press conference, the Wednesday manager replied via the club’s official Facebook page: “When you go on speculation you must every day give answers about that. When we have something to say we will say that.

“There is nothing concrete. In the speculation we must not give answers of that. We will give answers when we have made decisions and at this moment we have made no decisions.”

Hector’s position is one in which Sheffield Wednesday are expected to strengthen after having their transfer embargo lifted last week.

But Luhukay would not reveal whether or not a new central defender is his priority.

Hector, for whom Jose Mourinho paid around £5 million to sign from Reading three years ago, played 38 times for Hull last season, having previously spent time at Frankfurt, Aberdeen and countless other clubs.

The 26-year-old Jamaica international can also operate as a central midfielder, and has filled in at full-back previously in his career.

Despite that, he is still awaiting his first team debut for Chelsea.
