Sheffield Wednesday defender Jordan Thorniley was handed his debut in Jos Luhukay’s side’s last match.

Thorniley was handed his Wednesday debut last Saturday, when the Owls played against Cardiff City.
The young defender impressed, as Wednesday picked up a 0-0 draw against the Welsh side.
And Luhukay admits he has been impressed by the centre-back’s showings in training.

He said: “I looked at who was doing well in training and I had a good feeling about Jordan. I think he showed me and everyone he is ready for the Championship. Jordan did a good job.”
Thorniley could now keep his place in Wednesday’s starting line-up for their next league match, if Luhukay sticks with his new system, which includes five defenders.
Thorniley’s only other first-team experience has come on loan spells with Stockport County and Accrington Stanley, so this is a big step up for the youngster.
Luhukay has certainly improved Wednesday defensively since taking charge, with the Yorkshire side yet to concede a goal under his stewardship.

The Owls are currently in 17th place in the Championship table, after what has been a highly disappointing campaign to date.
Luhukay’s new side are next in action on Friday evening, against Reading in the FA Cup.
