Youngsters Alex Hunt and Liam Waldock are the latest players to encounter Sheffield Wednesday’s daunting initiation process.

Footage of the Owls Under-18s midfielders standing on chairs and signing to their senior colleagues at the team’s Cheshire training camp was posted to Lucas Joao’s Instagram story on Wednesday.

The now established ritual is one that every player – and even some staff – is forced to undertake, often on their first overnight stay with the first team.

And Nicky Weaver was another to partake, with the former Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper turned youth team coach presumably assuming Andy Rhodes’ senior responsibilities after the 53-year-old’s departure for Oldham Athletic earlier this month.

But the presence of Hunt, who captains Wednesday’s Under-18s, and Waldock is arguably the most interesting takeaway, given Jos Luhukay’s pledge to provide opportunities to those below his first team this pre-season.

The pair signed their first professional contracts last season and will be looking to capitalise on the expected departure of another Owls midfielder, Sean Clare, this summer.
