Dawson has succeeded Keiren Westwood as Sheffield Wednesday’s first choice goalkeeper.

Keiren Westwood will not be brought back into the fold at Sheffield Wednesday, despite the Owls’ failure to keep a single league clean sheet all season.

Westwood, the experienced Republic of Ireland goalkeeper, has avoided conceding in 52 of his 144 games for Wednesday, but has found himself frozen out at Hillsborough this campaign.

Jos Luhukay, the Owls manager, has instead placed his faith in academy products Cameron Dawson (league) and Joe Wildsmith (cup).

But recent results have only increased calls from Sheffield Wednesday supporters to reinstate the popular Westwood.

Asked if he has considered doing at a press conference on Friday, however, Luhukay replied the Owls’ official Facebook page: “I think that is not a discussion nor a problem that we have. When we only look to what Cammy gives on performances, it has been 100 per cent (and) we are staying behind him.

“I think when you see the last games, what he (has done), we must be honest and we must not speak about this discussion. (If) Cammy on Saturday was not 100 per cent, we (would have lost) the game four-or-five one-or-two, and we (would not have) come back at the end. Everyone was happy, everyone had the feeling it was a winning game. Barry (scored) a brilliant free-kick but in the first half it could have been three-four-or-five-nil to Stoke.

“Last Wednesday, the same situation. In the first half; stability. In the second half; too open, and who (helped) us stay in the game it was again Cammy Dawson. He had two, three, four moments, that if (he does not) make (there could have been) a third or fourth goal.

“The players on the field they must do a better job. In the end, Cammy is trying to (stop) what is coming through him and he is not the player who makes the mistakes that have not in (the last) two games (given us) the results that we like. That is why we stay behind our team but also, in this situation, behind Cammy.”

Luhukay’s decision to select Dawson as number one was recently backed by Kevin Pressman, the legendary former Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper.

Interviewed by Sheffield Live TV last month, Pressman explained: “I like the look of Cameron, personally, with my eyes as a goalkeeping coach and what I see is obviously not what everybody else sees. The supporters don’t see what I see, I see mistakes the supporters don’t see. They see the obvious ones. And for me, Cameron has got the jersey and rightly so.

“I would probably say at the moment, yes (Dawson does possess the greater commanding presence). I’m impressed with his mobility around the box. That’s the biggest thing for me. It’s alright having big, tall keepers that can’t move. He supports the back four well, it allows them to play a high line because they know he’s going to sweep. They’ve got confidence with him. His mobility and his movement around the box is good and I like that.”
