Jos Luhukay has admitted he’s spoken to Dejphon Chansiri about Sheffield Wednesday’s January plans.

But the Owls manager failed to disclose whether or not those could involve the moving on of a trio of players he’s frozen out this season.

Neither David Jones nor George Boyd have appeared for Wednesday at first team level since August, while it is approaching nine months since Almen Abdi’s last senior outing.

Asked about the upcoming transfer window, Luhukay told the official Sheffield Wednesday Facebook page: “Yes (he has spoken to the Owls chairman, Chansiri), but again we cannot speak about that. First it is important to have your new focus on Saturday (when Luhukay’s side travel to Blackburn Rovers).

“The planning is always every day – what is the best way for Sheffield Wednesday? What is the best for the team – for the players? This is every day the process. That is not new.

“But again you can only make decisions in January and in the summer. So that’s why now our whole focus must be to try to win the next game.”

On the prospect of Jones, Boyd or Abdi returning to his plans, the Wednesday boss replied: “We make for our squad decisions and these players are a long time not playing games. It looks easy but it is very difficult when you have not played for a very long time.

“When you have played two years maybe only a couple of games you are not 100 per cent to have the intensity to play in the Championship and these players are also not the youngest players any more. At this time, these players are not in the last 18 players in the squad.

“What in January or next summer happens (with those players) we will see that. But you cannot now make a decision about that, we are now running in the season and you must try to bring good results.

“In January we will try to sit together and then we must look how is our squad and what is the intention for January to May with which players, with what squad, the same as in the summer. But it is now too early to make that decision.”

Jones, Boyd and Abdi are among nine senior Sheffield Wednesday players in the final year of their contracts, alongside Keiren Westwood, Daniel Pudil Liam Palmer, Kieran Lee, Marco Matias and Gary Hooper.

Of those, only Palmer, 27, will be under 30 years old at the time of their deals expiring.
