Jos Buttler has shared some advice for England captain Harry Brook ahead of the T20 World Cup.

Buttler and Brook have both played key roles in England’s ODI and T20 series wins over Sri Lanka this winter.

They will now take a lot of confidence into the World Cup, which will be held in India and Sri Lanka later this month.

Buttler, England’s former white-ball captain, is particularly looking forward to playing under Brook during the tournament.

Jos Buttler’s simple advice for England captain Harry Brook

Harry Brook was not the most obvious choice to replace Buttler as England’s white-ball captain, as he is still relatively early in his career.

However, the 26-year-old is one of England’s best players and will be a mainstay in the team for the foreseeable future.

And Brook can get his captaincy off to the best possible start over the next few weeks by winning the T20 World Cup.

Ahead of the event, Buttler offered Brook some simple advice that could help him succeed in the role.

“Just to do it his own way,” he told the ECB website. “I think he’s leading the side how he wants to play. He does that in the way he plays himself really well, so the guys can follow that strongly.

“Just stay true to yourself. It’s very clear that he does that in the way he plays. Stay true to the way that he wants the team to play.”

Jos Buttler has high expectations for Harry Brook and Jacob Bethell

Buttler is 35 years old, so this will probably be his last T20 World Cup in an England shirt.

His departure from the side will be a big blow, but the future of England’s batting line-up is bright.

Buttler highlighted Brook and Jacob Bethell as two young players who can flourish over the next decade.

“The talent is incredible,” he said. “Young players who come in now are just getting better and better. Jacob Bethell has the world at his feet at 22 years old.

“Some of the shots Brooky was playing tonight.. he’s still a young guy. He’s obviously experienced and the captain of the team, but he’s a young man as well. He has so much talent, and he’s going to get better and better.

“It’s a really exciting group to be part of. There’s a lot of energy in the team and desire to be a really good side, to compete and win games of cricket.”
