Tottenham Hotspur made Jorginho look average, but he still would’ve been a class addition.

Mauricio Pochettino will have been delighted with every aspect of Tottenham Hotspur’s 3-1 win over Chelsea on Saturday.

But one aspect in particular would have pleased the Argentine manager.

Jorginho, a reported Tottenham target last summer, has been brilliant since his £57 million move to Stamford Bridge [Telegraph], and yet Spurs’ dominant midfield made him look bang average.

Of course, he isn’t bang average in the slightest, but Pochettino’s tactics prevented him from being the player that everybody knows he is and the home boss would’ve been over the moon to see him shackled so effectively.

It seems odd to think that the Lilywhites reportedly wanted him [The Daily Mail] last summer, given that they’re still a fantastic team without him.

But make no mistake, Jorginho still would’ve been a brilliant signing by chairman Daniel Levy had he ended up in North London instead of West London.

Levy and Pochettino will need a top-class midfielder either in January or next summer, after The Sun reported that Mousa Dembele won’t be extending his contract.

Dembele has been phenomenal for Tottenham since 2012 and although Harry Winks is looking like a very able deputy, Jorginho would’ve been a superb replacement.

As good as Winks is, he is untested over the course of an entire season. Despite what Spurs fans saw on Saturday, Jorginho is streets ahead of him.

It’s too late to sign the former Napoli star obviously, but Tottenham need to replace Dembele with somebody of that quality. They’re a fine football team without him, but long-term they would’ve been a lot better with him.
