Chelsea midfielder Jorginho is hoping to prove himself this season.

Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has told The Telegraph that he wants fans to notice they made a mistake about him when small sections jeered him last season.
The Blues snapped up Jorginho from Napoli in 2018, handing him a huge £110,000-a-week deal (Sportrac) whilst landing him alongside boss Maurizio Sarri as the pair followed each other from Naples to West London.
Jorginho was the key man in Sarri’s midfield at Napoli, so it’s no great surprise that the same setup was brought to Stamford Bridge, but it didn’t appear to be having the desired impact.
Italian international Jorginho was failing to really impose himself on games, and the fact that he was playing in a holding midfield role whilst essentially forcing N’Golo Kante to play further forward wasn’t met well.
Some fans jeered Jorginho last season, suggesting that he was only in the team because he was a Sarri favourite, but he’s now proving his quality under Frank Lampard too.
The 27-year-old is arguably having more impact on Chelsea’s play under Lampard than he was under Sarri, and he stepped up from the penalty spot to score in the 2-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday.

Now, Jorginho has admitted that the fan criticism made him ‘a little bit sad’ last season, and wants fans to recognise that they made a mistake about him last season.
He added that he thought it was impossible to get fans on his side last season, and believes he has the perfect opportunity to prove he deserves to be a Chelsea player under Lampard, not just under Sarri.
“Yes, it made me a little bit sad because I knew it was not like that but in my mind I just have to work hard and change their minds, and they have to notice they made a mistake about myself,” said Jorginho. “It was amazing because last season it was impossible. I am very happy how they changed their mind about me. I worked a lot, I never said anything. I am thankful for what I learnt from him [Sarri] but it is an opportunity to show I’m here not just for the coach,” he added.
