The former Ibrox favourite thinks Rangers can pick up a positive result this Thursday.

Former Rangers star Jorg Albertz believes Steven Gerrard’s side should feel confident of victory heading into this Thursday’s UEFA Europa League encounter against Feyenoord, The Sunday Post report.

Rangers managed to bounce back from a damaging recent derby defeat vs Livingston on Saturday, winning 3-1 and ensuring that Celtic did not move further ahead of them in the Scottish Premiership.

That defeat was something of an anomaly for the club this season, with Gerrard inspiring his team to unbeaten form otherwise.

The Gers have won 11 of their 14 matches so far this term.

Albertz believes they now have the platform to show their quality as individuals and as a unit in continental action.

As quoted by The Sunday Post, the former Ibrox favourite said: “The Dutch side will provide tough opposition, but Steven Gerrard and his players must be confident of a victory.

“I’m sure they will deliver. They have some very talented players in the team, and this is the stage to showcase what you are all about.

“Whether it is Jermain Defoe or Alfredo Morelos up front, they need the right service given to them.”

How big is Rangers’ task?

Rangers haven’t put a foot wrong in Europe this season, so Albertz’s insistence they can get something out of the match against the Eredivisie outfit isn’t without merit.

Progression against Legia Warsaw and FC Midtjylland showed that the side’s progress in Europe last season under Gerrard was no fluke.

Feyenoord are a step up in class compared to those teams and have reasons of their own to feel positive. Unbeaten in competitive action since the start of the season, the Dutch outfit have also won their last four fixtures.

Rather worryingly for Rangers, they were imperious in the play-off round of the Europa League too, thrashing Hapoel Be’er Sheva 3-0 in each leg.

Home advantage could be critical though and if the Gers can harness the backing of a passionate support then they can potentially raise their game and kick off the group stage with a victory.

It’s certain to be an exciting night of European action however it shakes out.
