The Netherlands international left Southampton in pursuit of regular first-team football.

When Southampton first signed Jordy Clasie from Feyenoord in the summer of 2015, it looked like a fine piece of business from Saints boss Ronald Koeman.
After all, the midfielder had been tipped for stardom since his teens and he seemed to be moving to St. Mary’s at the perfect time in his career.

Unfortunately for the player and the club, things did not go according to plan, and after slipping down the pecking order last season, Clasie left Southampton for a loan spell at Club Brugge.
The 26-year-old would have been hoping to get back into the first-team fold from the outset, but that has not been the case, with the Southampton loanee managing just 52 minutes spread over three matches this season.
He has started all three league games on the bench, coming on for the last 20 minutes against Mouscron and the final 10 minutes against KV Mechelen, while he did not get any time in last weekend’s clash with Charleroi.

It has been no better in the cup, with Clasie managing only 22 minutes against KSV Roeselare, and the simple fact is the Southampton player is a long way from his best.
It is testament to how far he has fallen that Clasie is yet to start for Brugge having once been tipped as a superstar in the making. But it seems Southampton made the right call parting company with a player who may never fulfil his potential.
