The French midfielder has never settled at Villa Park.

A legend at French side Saint-Etienne has claimed that Aston Villa midfielder Jordan Veretout wants to join the club on a permanent deal.

Jean-Michel Larque spent 12 years playing for Les Verts and is now a football journalist in France.

He told French television this week, as reported by talkSPORT, that Veretout wants to remain at Saint-Etienne and the club also want him to stay:

“There’s a good chance he’s going to be a Stephanois next season.

“We’re doing everything at Saint Etienne to make him a Stephanois and he wants to stay at Saint Etienne.”

He has been a star at Saint-Etienne so far, featuring in 25 games and scoring once. His form in France even saw him linked with a move to Juventus in the winter.

The French midfielder arrived at Villa from Nantes last summer in a deal said to be worth around £8 million by the Daily Mail last summer, rejecting Leicester City to make the move.

But he struggled to have a major impact at Villa, as the club were relegated to the Championship as the Premier League’s bottom club.

Aston Villa’s chairman Tony Xia confirmed on Twitter in December that the club would sell Veretout as he was not happy at Villa Park.

It seems that a move to Saint-Etienne looks increasingly likely.
