The midfielder left Aston Villa in the summer after a disappointing first season in Birmingham.

Speaking to Goal, former Aston Villa midfielder Jordan Veretout has claimed he sees nothing but positives from his time at Villa Park.
The midfielder moved to Birmingham last summer as part of a number of signings made by then-manager Tim Sherwood.
Like many of the arrivals that summer he proved to be a major disappointment, failing to find the back of the net in 25 league games last season.
The Villans ended up relegated to the Championship at the end of last season and Veretout elected to return to France with Saint-Etienne in the summer transfer window as a result.
It is fair to say many would label his time in England as unsuccessful but he refuses to do so.
“I had a great experience at Aston Villa. I’m under contract there and the club has given me a lot,” he told Goal.
“I was in a comfort zone in Nantes, but leaving allowed me to discover a new culture. It was not necessarily easy, but it gave me a lot of experience.”
“Collectively, we could say that it was a failure because we went down to the Championship. But personally, I draw only positives.”

It will be interesting to see if Veretout ends up making a return to England in future.
Much is likely to rest on how Aston Villa do in the Championship this season. They are currently 16th in the table, five points outside of the top six.
Should they manage to secure promotion then Veretout may be given another chance to impress but on the other hand, failure to go up may see them cut their ties permanently.
