Thorniley was stretchered off in the 72nd minute as Sheffield Wednesday went down 2-1 at Millwall.
Jordan Thorniley has thanked the staff of both Sheffield Wednesday and Millwall – as well as those from the hospital at which he was treated – after suffering a facial injury during the Owls’ defeat on Tuesday.
Thorniley, who has impressed since making his Wednesday debut in January – went down seconds before Millwall scored their second goal and was laid flat out for some time before being stretchered off, resulting in 13 minutes of stoppage time at the Den.
Owls manager Jos Luhukay expressed concern for the defender’s well being in his post match press conference, telling the Sheffield Star: “We don’t have a good feeling about the injury.
“Jordan’s gone to hospital with our doctor. I think a foot from the opponent unluckily hit his face.”
Posting on Twitter on Wednesday morning, Thorniley wrote:
Sheffield Wednesday lined up without a recognised striker at the Den, but took the lead with three minutes left of the first half courtesy of Joey Pelupessy’s first goal for the Owls.
However, Millwall levelled seven minutes after the restart through Lee Gregory – a lifelong Sheffield United supporter – and completed the turnaround when Steve Morison struck 11 minutes after that.
Wednesday ended the game with Lucas Joao, Atdhe Nuhiu and Jack Stobbs in attack, but it was too little too late for the visitors, who were unable to capitalise on their additional threat.
