Halliday scored an excellent free-kick, but Rangers failed to beat Dundee on Sunday.
Jordan Thompson hilariously heaped praise on Rangers man Andy Halliday on Twitter after he scored a free-kick in the Gers’ disappointing draw against Dundee on Sunday afternoon.
Rangers gave up more points in the title race to Jim McIntyre’s Dundee, as they played out a 1-1 draw at Dens Park. Kenny Miller gave The Dark Blues the lead, chasing down a long ball and toeing the ball past Allan McGregor.
Dundee went down to 10 men in the first half as Nathan Ralph for a tackle on Daniel Candeias. Halliday then immediately took the free-kick, curling it into the top corner of Jack Hamilton’s net.
Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi scored two wonderful free-kicks over the weekend against Espanyol, and La Liga’s Twitter page asked if there were any better free-kick takers out there – Thompson replied “Andy Halliday, fact.”
The Scottish Premiership makes for grim reading for Rangers fans, after the frustrating draw. Celtic sit in first place, with 33 points from 15 games. Rangers sit on 31 from 16. A win for Celtic in that game of hand will open up a gap of five points.
Rangers are next in action on Thursday night in a crucial Europa League tie, as the Gers travel to Austria to face Rapid Vienna in a must-win clash if they are to qualify for the knockout phase of the European competition.
Thompson, who left Rangers in the summer after his contract expired, is currently impressing at League One side Blackpool where he has scored three goals and created three more in 23 outings.
