Jordan Spieth’s main problem over the past seven years has been his putting.

Spieth has actually driven the ball very well on the whole over the past few years, but he has really struggled on the greens.

The 32-year-old’s putting is the main reason why he hasn’t won since April 2022, and the stats back that up.

From the 2025 season going backwards, Jordan Spieth has ranked 65th, 101st, 79th, 155th, 33rd, and 105th in strokes gained putting.

In 2026, he is ranked 40th in strokes gained putting.

Spieth’s putting technique has been questionable to say the least, with his lead shoulder dropping way below the level of his trail shoulder, which causes a downward strike on the golf ball.

The Dallas native seems to be hitting his head against a brick wall right now. The harder he tries, the more he struggles.

He still hasn’t had a top 10 finish in 2026, and that simply isn’t good enough for a player of his calibre.

Maybe it’s time for a change…

Jordan Spieth admits he’s been fitted for a LAB putter

Spieth made an appearance on the Golf on CBS Show, and discussed a variety of different topics.

The three-time major champion was asked whether he has considered using a mallet putter recently.

And he responded by explaining how he is not against using any equipment that could make him a better golfer.

In the last off-season I got LAB fitted. I tried a number of different mallets, he said.

I was essentially like what is going to be the best for me and the way I stroke it and my hands move?

The mallet increase MOI is just so minimal on putting. It’s making no difference unless you really hit it off centre with putts, which for pros, they don’t.

You’re talking about a difference of five millimeters toe to heel for the most part and it’s not going to make much of a difference.

I went through just about everything and it landed on what I am using right now.

It does not mean that I won’t find one that strokes it better in the future but I’m not just sitting here saying that I’m adamant because I putted well with a blade in the past.

Jordan Spieth says if he will ever use a LAB in the future

Spieth admitted that he is always open to using literally anything that might make him better.

I am open to whatever is going to get the ball in the hole faster and that is what I will use.

It’s just I wanted to take care of the commitment side of it before the season started and say okay I feel I have checked the boxes here and I feel good about this.

I have been stroking it really well. Some weeks I have putted it really well. The lid has been on the hole for a few and if it just leaks off I can be as streaky as any of them.

Perhaps Spieth should consider trialling the mallet putter one week. What’s the worst that could happen?

Sometimes a change of putter can make all the difference for golfers who are struggling to win.

And it might just be time for Jordan Spieth to take the plunge.
