Ipswich Town have already blocked Nottingham Forest from nabbing Luke Chambers this season – and they could do the same with Jordan Spence.
With Hildeberto Pereira’s rollercoaster loan from Benfica brought to a merciful end by Nottingham Forest, manager Mark Warburton will know that signing a new right-back is a must for the Championship side this summer.
As it stands, experienced defender Eric Lichaj is Forest’s only senior option on the right side of defence – and his future remains up in the air with the club yet to offer the American a long-term deal.
Therefore, a move for Ipswich Town’s Jordan Spence made perfect sense. HITC sources told us that the former West Ham youngster was on Forest’s radar after kick-starting his career in the Championship.
Spence was handed a short-term deal at Portman Road in January eight months after being released by MK Dons and, in that time, he has impressed with a series of stand-out performances under Mick McCarthy.
However, it appears that Forest could be facing up to early disappointment in the transfer market, the Bristol Post reports.
“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it here,” Spence said after Ipswich’s 3-0 final day defeat to Forest, a result which kept Warburton’s side in the division.
“I would like to stay as long as I’m wanted here.”
And this fresh blow follows on from Luke Chambers signing a new two-year deal with Ipswich.
The Nottingham Post reported that the 31-year-old, who played over 200 games for Forest between 2006 and 2012, had been on the verge of a return to the City Ground in January, only for McCarthy to pull the plug at the last minute.
Therefore, it appears that Forest will be forced to look elsewhere for a new right-back with Ipswich seemingly doing all they can to scupper their transfer hopes.
