The striker scored a timely brace, taking his figures to three goals in seven games for the Owls.
Nottingham Forest’s Eric Lichaj (L) with Jordan Smith and Sheffield Wednesday’s Jordan Rhodes
Sheffield Wednesday striker Jordan Rhodes would have been ecstatic with his brace in Saturday’s 5-1 Championship thumping of Norwich City, especially given how he started life at Hillsborough.
Rhodes scored just once in six appearances for the Owls, and missed a costly penalty against both play-off and Yorkshire rivals Leeds United, in what finished as a 1-0 victory for the Whites.
However, Rhodes didn’t just become a bad player overnight, and ultimately patience was required by Owls fans, as he showed in the Norwich game that he genuinely was the real deal. – taking his tally to a much more respectable three in seven with two well taken headers.
Owls boss Carlos Carvalhal was correct when he highlighted that Rhodes had been thrown in the deep end, and after such little football at Middlesbrough earlier this season, was bound to suffer, as reported in the Yorkshire Post.
Sheffield Wednesday’s Jordan Rhodes celebrates after the match
In just 22 days, Rhodes equalled the same amount of appearances he made in six months at Boro – six – with Wednesday, so it’s completely understandable that he wasn’t quite up to speed.
Now he’s seemingly at – or very close to – full fitness, Wednesday’s play-off bid has taken a timely boost. After all, a fully fit Rhodes could well be the difference between going up through the play-offs or staying down in the Championship.
