Everton are currently in Dubai enduring some warm weather training.
Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has told the club’s official website that January recruit Cenk Tosun is continuing to impress in training despite being yet to make an impact on Merseyside.
The Toffees completed the £27million capture of Tosun in January from Turkish champions Besiktas, but after two starts Tosun was dropped by manager Sam Allardyce with Oumar Niasse preferred up front.
Sam Allardyce said last week that he would only be using the Turkey international when the Toffees are safe, in order to give him the best chance of adapting to the English game.
Pickford stated that Tosun had surprised him aerially in training as the first team are put through their paces in Dubai and believes it is only a matter of time before Tosun finds his feet on Merseyside.
“I did not know what he would be like aerially (when he first signed),” Pickford said. “But I was kicking the ball up and he was winning his share of battles. The lads were putting balls in the box and he got on the end of a few of them with headers as well. That is promising.
“They have settled in quickly as new signings and everyone has to help them feel welcome. That is the type of club Everton is – when I first came to the Club I was made to feel welcome straight away.”
Senegal cap Niasse is expected to start over Tosun once again on Saturday evening as the Toffees travel to Vicarage Road to face Watford, with Allardyce looking to earn just his sixth Premier League three points as Toffees manager.
Sitting in a much healthier ninth position, Allardyce has rejuvenated the Toffees somewhat and taken them from the depths of the Premier League to within just two points of seventh-placed Burnley.
