Sunderland have won their last two games to move closer to survival.
Sunderland’s Jordan Pickford
Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has told the Chronicle they believe they are good enough to stay in the Premier League this season.
The Black Cats made a disastrous start to the season, failing to win any of their first ten games.
That saw them come in for heavy criticism, with many questioning whether they were good enough to play in the Premier League.
They have turned things around in the last two weeks, though, first securing a win over Bournemouth and then beating Hull City last weekend.
Both of those games showed there is some quality in this current squad and Pickford says as a group they are confident they are good enough for the top flight.
“I have always said we are not far away, we just needed to click as a team and get that first win,” he told the Chronicle.
“Now we need to keep building and building. We have done it the last couple of years, once it clicks we are a good side.”
“On paper we are good enough to be in the Premier League and we believe we are good enough to stay here.”

It is now up to Sunderland to continue their current winning streak and move further away from the relegation zone.
The win over Hull City took them to eight points in total, just three points away from West Ham in 17th place.
It means they have more than a strong chance of avoiding the drop again this season but must build on their recent form to do so, starting with a big performance against Liverpool this weekend.
