Everton’s away form has been quite simply appalling this season.
Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford sat down for an exclusive interview with the Liverpool Echo, and highlighted his side’s poor away form as something that needs to improve as a matter of urgency.
The Toffees began their 2017/18 campaign in woeful fashion, winning just two of their opening nine Premier League games – a run that culminated in Ronald Koeman’s sacking in October.
Sam Allardyce was handed the reigns at Goodison Park in November, and despite having an initial impact, he has struggled to really take the Blues forward.
Everton’s dismal away record has been a major contributing factor behind their struggles to progress this season, they have picked up just eight points on the road thus far – the third worst record in the division.
When speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Pickford highlighted the need for his team to improve their away form, if they are to fulfil their potential this season:
“Our away form needs to improve. We’re Everton – we are not down the bottom of the league, we should be up there and that’s the type of game we need to be getting results from ( Burnley on Saturday). But we know our home form is really good, and that we need to improve our record away. That’s where you really shoot right up the table. That’s where we want to be as a team and as a group of lads. We can only get better. We are Everton; we need to go and make the fans proud.”
Next up for the Toffees is a trip to Turf Moor to take on Burnley on Saturday, and Sean Dyche’s side will surely make things extremely tricky for Allardyce’s men, as the Merseyside outfit look to chalk up only their second away win of the season.
