Everton suffered a 2-0 defeat to Manchester United on New Year’s Day.
Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has told the club’s official website that manager Sam Allardyce has been a good appointment at Goodison Park, despite failing to win once in their last four games.
Monday night’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester United saw Everton go without a win in four games, scoring just once in that time as Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial found the back of the net at Goodison Park.
Despite their recent form, Pickford was upbeat over Allardyce’s appointment on Merseyside, stating that the former England boss has brought in good staff.
The former Sunderland goalkeeper also spoke of the training sessions with Allardyce, and believes that a bout of good form is just around the corner under the experienced Premier League manager.
“He [Allardyce] has brought a good structure and balance to the side,” said Pickford. “I feel like we know where we stand with him. He is all about the basics. If we get the basics right, then we can go and play our football.
“The past couple of games have been a bit sloppy from us. We do enough with the gaffer on the training ground two or three days before the game. We do attack vs defence, which is about blocking shots and stopping crosses.
“He has brought in great staff: Craig Shakespeare, Sammy Lee and the new goalkeeping coach, Martyn Margetson.
“We all know what we need to do. The luck is not going our way at the top end of the pitch to get a goal and I think we had enough chances [against United] as well.”
Everton remain in ninth place in the Premier League table but are now 10 points adrift of sixth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, who have two games in hand over Allardyce’s Merseyside outfit.
The Toffees are next in action on Friday night as they travel across Merseyside for the second time this season to face Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool at Anfield in the third round of the FA Cup.
