Sunderland have only managed to pick up one point this season.

Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has told the club’s official website they will come out of their tough start well.

The Black Cats have had a disastrous start to the season, picking up just one win from their first six games of the campaign.

They suffered their worst defeat to date last weekend as they surrendered a 2-0 lead to Crystal Palace to lose 3-2 to Alan Pardew’s side.

Many are predicting a tough season for David Moyes and his team, especially after the capitulation against the Eagles.

But Pickford has insisted that they will come out of their current bad patch well.

“Everyone has been disappointed since the weekend because it was a kick in the teeth, but we need to focus on Saturday and the results will come,” he told the club’s official website.

“We have got a good team spirit but we just need to keep plugging away at it and we will come out the side well.”

If Sunderland are to turn things around, showing an improvement defensively will be key to their hopes.

Their back line has looked shaky, to say the least, but the number of chances they are giving away to opponents is particularly surprising.

So far this season they have given away an average of 18.8 chances per game to their opponents, the second most of any team behind Hull City.

That is a dangerous number and they will need to significantly reduce it if they are to start picking up the results they needed.
