Australian midfielder Jordan Lyden has been speaking about his hopes of playing regular football at Aston Villa once he has recovered from his recent thigh injury problems.

The 20-year-old midfield operator made his breakthrough into the Aston Villa first-team last season as the club were relegated to the Championship. Once in the second tier he would have felt that he could make a move into the Aston Villa first-team on a regular basis.

However, injury has put a halt to those ambitions.

But speaking to SBS’ the World Game the midfielder has commented on his hopes of making regular football a common occurrence at Villa Park when fit.

He stated:

“I have no doubts about my ability and the club have told me they have no worries about me getting through this and pushing myself into the team.

“I had a taste of it towards the end of last season by getting a few first team games under my belt, and now I need to keep progressing.

“I have been around the club for 12 years now and they have shown a lot of faith in me. I want to repay that.”

Villa have plenty of midfield options at present – with summer signings Aaron Tshibola and Mile Jedinak joining the likes of Gary Gardner and Ashley Westwood in the pecking order for the Midlands club.

Lyden will therefore have a tough task on his hands playing regular football at Aston Villa when he gets back to full fitness.

Much will depend on whether he can impress his new boss Steve Bruce enough to give him a chance.
