The young midfielder has signed a two-year extension to his current deal.
Aston Villa midfielder Jordan Lyden has voiced his delight at being offered the chance to extend his contract at such an “exciting time” for the club, speaking to the club’s official website.
Lyden committed his future to the club on Tuesday by putting pen to paper on a two-year extension to his current deal, which was due to run out next summer.
The 20-year-old Australian is yet to feature for Villa this season under Roberto di Matteo but has first-team action under his belt from last season, in which he made six appearances in all competitions, including two Premier League starts.
The midfielder is seen as a future first-team star at Villa Park, and as such has been awarded extended terms at the Championship club.
Speaking after confirming his new terms, Lyden expressed his delight at securing his status as part of the club’s future and insisted that despite not yet featuring this term he has the faith of Di Matteo.
Lyden told avfc.co.uk: “I’m really happy to have signed a contract extension. It’s great that the manager has got faith in me and sees me as part of the future.
“I’ve loved my time here so far and I know that this is the best place for me to continue my development. It’s an exciting time to be at the club too. There’s a great groups of lads here and the coaching staff have been brilliant with me.
“There’s a really positive atmosphere around the place. I want to help the club get back into the Premier League and play my part in any way I can.”
It remains to be seen how big a part Lyden will play for Villa this season, but with only one win from their first nine games in all competitions many supporters will likely to be open to seeing him and other fresh faces given opportunities to shine.
