Jordan Jones has thanked Kilmarnock fans on Twitter after he was given an excellent reception at Rugby Park during his side’s 2-0 win over Forfar in the Scottish Cup on Saturday – following his pre-contract agreement with Rangers.

The 24-year-old has signed a deal that will see him join Rangers at the end of the season on a free transfer, and the Northern Ireland international’s immediate reaction on Twitter angered Killie fans.

He posted it was a “dream come true” to join Rangers, though he would be remaining with Steve Clarke’s side until the end of the season. It angered the Scottish Premiership side’s fans, and there were suggestions he would be booed on Saturday.

But he was given a kind reception at Rugby Park, and he posted on Twitter a heartfelt message to Killie fans as they earned a place in the fifth round of the competition with a comfortable win.

Jones played 65 minutes of the victory, in which defender Stuart Findlay and ex-Rangers winger Chris Burke scored the goals to down the Scottish League One side.

Jones is one of four signings made by Rangers this month, with Steven Gerrard bringing in Jermain Defoe and Steven Davis on loan, while a similar deal to Jones’ has been agreed with Dundee star Glen Kamara.
