Jordan Jones has admitted to The Scottish Sun that he didn’t quite realise the impact of his goal against Rangers in January.

The Kilmarnock winger scored the winner in a 2-1 win over Rangers, 18 days after signing a pre-contract agreement to join Steven Gerrard’s side this summer.

In doing so, Jones directly hindered the Gers in the Scottish Premiership title race, but the Northern Ireland star admits he was just doing his job.

“I scored but that’s my job,” he told The Scottish Sun. “At the time, you’re in the zone, but afterwards it hit me what I’d done.

“I got some stick off the Rangers fans, but that’s part and parcel of the job. When the gaffer picks me I go on the pitch and do my job.”

Jones scored four times in six games for Killie across December and January, but his goalscoring form seems to have tailed off since.

The 24-year-old has only found the net once in the following eight games since the win over Rangers.

It’ll be interesting to see how he adapts to life at Ibrox next term. Gerrard already has an abundance of left-sided attackers, which suggests that Jones will perhaps compete with Daniel Candeias for a spot on the right.
