Sunderland are reportedly amongst the teams chasing a summer deal for Jordan Jones.
Despite preparing for their first season in the third tier since 1987/88, there is a feeling of optimism around Sunderland with new owners and a new manager in place that they could soon be back at the sort of heights that they belong.
The Black Cats should have the capabilities to breeze through League One, so the pressure is perhaps now on new boss Jack Ross to identify the kind of targets that are going to make sure that the club secure promotion at the first time of asking.
And in fairness to Ross, it appears that he reportedly has his eye on a player who has the potential to be the best in the division should he move to the Stadium of Light this summer.
Jones is already one of the most exciting players in the Scottish Premiership, capable of using his talent and trickery to coast past most defenders in the division with ease. He is not the finished product, but he is going to be a frightening prospect when he does realise his potential.
League One may perhaps be the perfect proving ground for the Northern Ireland international, especially at a club like Sunderland where the expectation will be extremely high. And with the Black Cats likely to have their eye on getting back into the Premier League, they may be an ideal club for Jones to join as they will be hoping to constantly offer him a step-up in level and he can grow and perfect his game as the side potentially move through the leagues.
As a winger, he may have the potential to frustrate the supporters if he joins, but if Sunderland do manage to complete a deal, they would arguably stand a fantastic chance of having the division’s most talented player in their ranks next season.
