Rangers have been superb under Steven Gerrard, losing just twice in 20 competitive games since his appointment, and head towards January without many huge needs in the transfer market.

The Gers brought in 15 new players over the summer to completely overhaul the side, and there shouldn’t be huge spending when the transfer window re-opens.

Rangers should though look to players inside the final six months of their contracts, in an attempt to sign quality players on free transfers or bargain fees.

Rangers will be looking to add winger Ryan Kent on a permanent basis, and whilst Gerrard also has Glenn Middleton, Daniel Candeias and Eros Grezda at his disposal, other options may be considered after Jamie Murphy’s major injury.

One option would be Kilmarnock’s Jordan Jones, who was a target for the Gers in August according to The Express, and he would be able to sign a pre-contract agreement in January.

Jones, 23, has starred for Kilmarnock since his 2016 move, and the ex-Middlesbrough winger is now considered one of the top talents in Scottish football outside the Old Firm.

The Northern Irish international, who plays alongside Rangers duo Gareth McAuley and Kyle Lafferty, would be a steal on a free, and whilst Rangers do have options out wide, he should still be considered by Gerrard in such a bargain deal.

Jones can play as an attacking midfielder whilst Grezda can play up front, adding versatility and flexibility to Rangers’ options – though it may take bad news on the Kent front to really spark Rangers into making a pre-contract offer for the Kilmarnock wide man.
