Liverpool surrendered a 3-1 lead to lose 4-3 to Bournemouth, and while scrutiny is on the Reds’ defence, Jordan Henderson picked out other areas that disappointed.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has admitted disappointment at aspects of the side’s performance following a 4-3 defeat to Bournemouth at Dean Court, in an interview with the club’s official website.

While much of the criticism has been reserved for the side’s defence and goalkeeper Loris Karius as the Reds surrendered a 3-1 lead, Henderson highlighted other areas of the game where they could have been better.

He told liverpoolfc.com: “I don’t feel like we were at 100 per cent throughout the game to be honest but we did well to get back to 3-1 in the lead.

“But [we needed] to keep going and keep fighting, which in the end we didn’t do, and they applied pressure in the last 20 minutes and got the goals.

“We were comfortable at times but I still think we could have penetrated a little bit better and there was still a lot of room for improvement after the first half. Second half we wanted to come out and improve.

“Overall, it’s just very disappointing.”

There certainly seemed to be a drop off in Liverpool’s performance once they had restored their two goal lead, and Bournemouth took the opportunity to throw caution to the wind and were ultimately rewarded.

It represents a blow to the Reds’ title hopes as they are now third, four points behind league leaders Chelsea, with Arsenal climbing above them at the weekend as they thrashed West Ham United.

Liverpool showed their good attacking intent at the weekend with three different goalscorers but the captain feels that there are areas for improvement there, though cutting out errors from the back will be a priority ahead of next weekend’s game against West Ham United at Anfield. The Reds will hope that Joel Matip can return to the side and bring some calmness and solidity that was clearly lacking.
