Well, it’s official that Liverpool have signed Luis Diaz.

The Reds acted relatively quickly to sign the Colombian attacker in a £50 million deal from Porto this afternoon.

Speculation only really intensified after Tottenham Hotspur made a bid for the player.

However, the 25-year-old is reported by Record to have snubbed Spurs in favour of joining Jurgen Klopp’s outfit on Merseyside.

Diaz is Liverpool’s first signing of the year and only their second since last January, having only brought in Ibrahima Konate from Leipzig during the summer transfer window.

And it looks like captain Jordan Henderson is happy with the business.

The Liverpool skipper uploaded two pictures on his Instagram story – the first being an animated image of Diaz in the club’s jersey, the second being a wry smile in response to the announcement.

Where will Luis Diaz play at Liverpool?

Well, that’s the £50 million question.

Diaz is almost exclusively a left-sided attacker and therefore that’ll indicate that he’ll compete with Sadio Mane in the German manager’s starting lineup.

Mane has been a magnificent servant for Liverpool down the years and therefore the South American will have to fight extremely hard to make Klopp drop him on a regular basis.

But with the Senegal international away at Africa Cup of Nations, and probably needing a break upon his return, the stage is set for the former Porto attacker to have an instant impact at Anfield.

Well, he perhaps won’t take to Premier League like a duck to water immediately, but the point is that he’ll probably get opportunities right off the bat and what happens after that is entirely up to him.
