Jordan Henderson has played down the thought that it would mean more to him if he were to win a trophy with England following his European triumph with Liverpool in June.
During the last World Cup, the Three Lions reached the semi-finals of the World Cup and ahead of the 2020 European Championships, a lot is expected of Gareth Southgate’s men.
Henderson is well aware of what that winning feeling is like because in June he helped the Reds lift their sixth European crown when they beat Spurs in Madrid.
Speaking to Sky Sports News (09/09/2019 7:50 pm), Henderson shared his thoughts on potentially winning a trophy with his country.
On whether it’d mean more winning a trophy with England: “It would mean a lot,” Henderson told Sky Sports News. “I wouldn’t say it would mean more, but that goes for any trophy.
“Any trophy that I’ll win I would be over the moon. That’s all I ever want, to win, whether that’s with Liverpool or England. It means so much to me to win trophies. It means so much to win as a team at the weekend, it means so much.
“But to win a trophy in the summer [with Liverpoool] was massive and huge for me and my team. But for England as well, we want to go forward, achieve and win trophies. It would mean everything to me.”
Henderson was a key figure in Liverpool being so successful last season and he will be hoping to have the same impact on the international stage.
It is a matter of time before England book their place for the next summer’s European Championships, and when that campaign starts a lot will be expected.
Over the weekend, Southgate’s side beat Bulgaria 4-0 at Wembley, as they now head to St Mary’s to take on Kosovo, who are their nearest challengers, at this moment in time.
