Hugo Lloris was Tottenham Hotspur’s hero last night.
Tottenham Hotspur – and in particular Hugo Lloris – held Bayer Leverkusen to a 0-0 draw in Germany last night for what looks to be a good result for their Champions League prospects.
It was arguably a case of one point earned rather than two points dropped at the BayArena as Mauricio Pochettino’s side rode their luck quite a bit at times.
If not for a moment of magic from Lloris in the second half then Spurs – who remain second in Group E, one point behind Monaco – might have returned to North London with a defeat.
Javier Hernandez looked certain to open the scoring before the hour mark, but the French keeper pulled off a ridiculous goal-line save to thwart the Mexcian striker last night.
Instinctively clawing the ball off away from the line may just be the finest save that a goalkeeper will make in this year’s edition of the competition.
And Wolverhampton Wanderers man Jordan Graham was certainly impressed by the Tottenham man’s heroics last night.
Spurs are one point above third-placed Leverkusen and two clear of CSKA Moscow in last place ahead of the final three group-stage outings over the coming weeks.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side have to contest two of these at ‘home’ in the form of Wembley, but it is probably not as big of an advantage as it seems based on how Monaco beat them.
