Jordan Botaka praises the Leeds United fans.
Leeds United youngster Jordan Botaka has outlined to to the club’s official website his impressions of the club’s fans.
The 22-year-old, who can play as a winger or as a forward, joined Leeds from Dutch side Excelsior in the summer of 2015.
The DR Congo international struggled for playing time at Leeds during the 2015-16 season.
In 13 Championship appearances for the West Yorkshire outfit last season, Botaka created 11 chances, had a pass accuracy of 79% and a shot accuracy of 14%, and won five headers, nine dribbles and nine tackles.
It was not a great season on a personal level for the former Excelsior attacker, but he is thankful to the Leeds fans for their support.
“I once sat in the stands and 30,000 fans gave me a standing ovation and shouted my name – I was stunned,” Botaka told Leeds’s official website.
“It gave me such a huge thrill. The fans are fantastic. I was Man of the Match in two of my first three matches and I think the fans took me into their hearts. I want to return something to them.”
Botaka is a good player, and he will hope to use pre-season training to impress new manager Garry Monk.
The DR Congo international will have learned a lot from his debut season in the Championship, and he will be a better player for that.
Leeds endured a disappointing 2015-16 campaign, and the Whites will be aiming to finish in the Championship playoffs next season.
