Oscar Borg has been compared to Gareth Bale and had trials at Manchester United – needless to say, Aston Villa have a talent on their hands.

Jordan Amavi leaving Aston Villa this summer came as little surprise and nor did his destination. Resurgent Ligue 1 giants Marseille, now under American ownership, had been linked for some time and finally got their man this summer via a season-long loan deal with a view to a permanent deal worth £9 million, The Mail reports.
The fact that Villa did not sign a player to compensate for the left-back’s departure, however, may be a cause for concern. As it stands, Neil Taylor, who arrived from Swansea in January and took Amavi’s place in the starting XI, is the only senior left sided defender on the club’s books.

The upside, however, is that Villa’s failure to reinforce their backline could pave the way for one of the most talented young players to make his breakthrough into the first-team.
Villa’s own wing wizard?
Oscar Borg could consider himself unfortunate to miss out on Villa’s EFL Cup win over Wigan Athletic, natural right-back Mitchell Clark chosen instead on the left, but it appears only a matter of time before the Under-23 regular is finally seen donning claret and blue in the Championship.
Borg may be yet to make his senior bow but he has dominated a few headlines already in his short career. The Daily Mail reported back in 2014 that a 16-year-old Borg had rejected the chance to sign on at West Ham and instead had trials at Manchester United.
Considering that he was so frequently compared to a certain Gareth Bale, it is perhaps no surprise there was so much interest.

Now at Villa, only injuries prevented Borg from staking a first-team claim last season. However, with Amavi gone, there is very little to prevent the jet-heeled youngster making his mark.
