Aston Villa defender Jordan Amavi has been ruled out since November with injury.
Jordan Amavi has admitted to Aston Villa’s official site that he cannot believe the level of support he has received from fans of the Midlands club.
Amavi made a positive impression in Villa’s side during the first few months of the season, but he injured his cruciate ligament in November and has not returned to action since.
The French international is expected to miss the rest of the season, but he is determined to come back stronger after receiving such support from Villa fans on social media.
“From that moment, the messages I received were very heart-warming – asking me how I was, telling me to stay strong,” he said.
“Then when the full extent of the injury was announced, the messages continued coming in to me on my Twitter account.
“It’s been amazing – and especially because I’ve only just arrived at the football club.
“If I’d been a hero here for many years, I’d understand it more – but to be a new player and receive this level of support and recognition is truly touching.
“I can’t actually express my emotions on that one.
“I have tried to say thank you to them with retweets and replies but that doesn’t really express totally my appreciation of their backing.
“I’d like to take this opportunity now to say a proper thank you to everyone who has wished me well.”
Amavi made 12 appearances for the Claret and Blues before getting ruled out with injury.
It would be incorrect to suggest that Villa were in good form while he was fit, but they have certainly been weakened by his absence.
Villa have failed to find a replacement for the 21-year-old left-back, and were forced to recall Aly Cissokho from a loan spell with Porto to try and find some cover.
Amavi, meanwhile, may well return to action with Villa playing Championship football.
Remi Garde’s side are currently eight points adrift of safety, and with their form showing little sign of improvement, they look destined to be relegated.
