Jonny Williams: Sunderland’s squad is as good as Sheffield United’s

Sunderland are currently in 23rd place in the Championship table, while Sheffield United are leading the way.

Jonny Williams has told the Sunderland Echo that Sunderland’s squad is every bit as good as league leaders Sheffield United’s.

Sunderland are currently 23 places behind the Blades in the Championship table, after what has been a woeful start.

But Williams feels that Sunderland are in a false position, compared to the quality that Simon Grayson has at his disposal.

“I saw Sheffield United win on Friday and I thought our squad is equally as good as theirs, but we are miles away,” the attacking midfielder said.

Williams arrived at Sunderland from Crystal Palace this summer, and he has shown flashes of quality since moving to the Stadium of Light.

However, the Welsh international was unable to stop Sunderland from falling to yet another home defeat in their last outing.

The Black Cats were beaten 2-1 by Bristol City in their most recent fixture, as the pressure increased further on Grayson.

Sunderland have still only won once in the league all season, and there are serious concerns that they could suffer back-to-back relegations.

Sunderland are next in action against bottom of the table Bolton, and another defeat would be a disaster for Grayson’s side.
