Sunderland ended their summer transfer window on a positive note after completing a triple signing spree on the deadline day with the arrival of Jonny Williams, Callum McManaman, and Marc Wilson.

Williams joined on a season-long loan deal, while McManaman and Wilson joined on cut-price permanent moves.

The 23-year-old midfielder is a product of Crystal Palace’s youth academy, and made his senior debut in 2011.

He has made over 60 appearances for the club, and played for Ipswich Town, Nottingham Forest, and Milton Keynes Dons on loan in the past few seasons.

The Wales international, who has made 17 appearances for his country, completed the move on Thursday after he was given the permission to leave the national training camp.

Williams has struggled to nail down a first team place at Selhurst Park, and feels that a move to Sunderland will boost his chances of appearing at the World Cup next summer.

He has hailed the move as “really exciting” and believes that the Sunderland manager will get the best out of him by playing him in his natural position.

“It’s a really exciting move for myself,” said Williams, as quoted by Sunderland Echo. “I’ve heard great things about the manager and his assistant – I think they’ll get the best out of me and play me in positions where I can hurt the opposition.

“Getting a run of games is the most important thing. “I managed to do something special with Palace and go up through the play-offs.”
