Parkhead isn’t Paradise for one Celtic man just yet.
Celtic’s acquisition of Jonny Hayes in the summer made perfect sense.
The 30-year-old only cost £1.3 million and was the only non-Celtic player to be in the running to win the SFA’s Player of the Year gong last season after scoring nine goals and setting up 12 for Aberdeen.
There wasn’t a huge amount of players in Scotland good enough to play for Brendan Rodgers’s side but Hayes – on paper at least – was certainly one of them.
Fast forward a few months, though, and it’s clear that Parkhead isn’t quite Paradise for the Irishman just yet.
Hayes is yet to score or set up a goal in any of his six Premiership appearances for Celtic so far, and has not played a minute in either of their two Champions League outings – a 5-0 defeat by Paris Saint-Germain and a 3-0 win over Anderlecht.
He was given the opportunity to impress on Saturday when Rodgers gave him 90 minutes against Hibernian but the chance passed him by.
As a result, it’s difficult to imagine him being given many more chances to shine from the start in the big competitions, meaning he will be relying on cameo appearances.
Whether it’s on the wing or at wing-back, Hayes will be lucky to remain at Celtic beyond January unless he picks things up in a big way.
