Brendan Rodgers surprised plenty of Celtic fans by leaving for the Premier League last week.
Jonny Evans suggested that he always thought that Celtic played fantastic football when he watched the side while Brendan Rodgers was in charge of the Hoops, in comments reported by The Scottish Sun.
Rodgers surprised many Bhoys supporters last week by deciding to leave Parkhead at this stage of the campaign for the Leicester City job rather than stay until the end of the season in the hope of winning a third domestic Treble in a row.
Unfortunately for Rodgers, his spell at the King Power Stadium did not get off to the best start as Watford’s stoppage-time goal saw the Hornets bag a 2-1 win against Leicester at the weekend. But Evans is backing his countryman for success after seeing the work he did at Celtic.
“What the new manager achieved at Celtic was fantastic. I watched them a few times under him on TV, especially in European games,” he said, as reported by The Scottish Sun.
“They played some fantastic football and hopefully he can bring that to Leicester, too.
“Hopefully he gets us playing in the same attacking manner.”
Rodgers has definitely tainted his relationship with the Celtic fans with the manner of his departure. Had he decided to leave in the summer, much of the blame would have been directed at the board for failing to provide the signings that allowed the club to make a greater impact in Europe.
The board must still take some flak for their inability to go further on the continental stage. But Rodgers has perhaps taken some of the pressure off of them by leaving for the Foxes at this point in the campaign.
