Ibrox club Glasgow Rangers reportedly want Michael O’Neill to be in charge of the Gers, and Stadium of Light outfit Sunderland want him as well, and West Bromwich Albion defender Jonny Evans has praised him.
The Gers are on the hunt for a new permanent manager following the departure of Pedro Caixinha in October.
Caixinha parted company with the Ibrox outfit due to a run of disappointing results in the Scottish Premiership.
The Scottish Sun has claimed that Sunderland are also interested in O’Neill, with the Championship club in England looking for a new permanent manager following the departure of Simon Grayson last month.
O’Neill is in charge of the Northern Ireland national football team at the moment, but with the team failing to qualify for the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia next summer, it remains to be seen what the 48-year-old does regarding his future.
West Bromwich Albion and Northern Ireland international defender Jonny Evans, 29, has explained what makes O’Neill such a good manager, comments that will surely excite and interest Rangers and Sunderland fans and underline just how good he is.
Evans told The Sunderland Echo when asked if he could appreciate why countries and clubs alike would be interested in hiring O’Neill: “Yes, definitely. He’s so inspirational, he’s very tactical.
“Even the other night, we had just got off the plane and were on the bus on the way to the hotel. He had watched the first half (of the first leg) and he came down the bus and he was like, ‘We’re calling a meeting and we’re going to watch it because you didn’t play that bad, there are so many basic things you can improve on’.
“It gave everyone a lift straight away. He’s got such composure and his team talks, he says the right things to get the lads going. You can see everyone plays for him and we all really, really respect him.”
