Everton have loaned out right back Jonjoe Kenny to Schalke.
Everton defender Jonjoe Kenny has told Bundesliga.com that it’s too soon to think about potentially leaving Everton for a permanent move to Schalke.
Kenny has come through the Toffees ranks having joined way back in 2006, and now has 40 first-team appearances to his name with Everton.
However, the England Under-21 international was struggling to nail down a spot in the Everton side, and some had concerns that he wasn’t actually good enough to succeed Seamus Coleman at right back.
Everton therefore decided to loan Kenny out, sending him to David Wagner’s Schalke side, and he has already scored his first goal for the club.
The 22-year-old smashed home a great strike against Hertha Berlin before the international break, and appears to be showing real signs of promise in Gelsenkirchen.
Now, Kenny has suggested that it’s too early to think about leaving Everton for good, as he doesn’t want to live in the future, instead just focusing on giving his all for Schalke and seeing what happens.
“It’s still too early for that decision. I don’t want to live in the future. Whatever happens, happens. Now I’m definitely giving everything for Schalke.”
Everton will be waiting to see Kenny’s progress, but even if he does want to leave and pursue a permanent move to Germany, just like Ademola Lookman did, Marcel Brands appears to have a plan in place.
Everton signed Djibril Sidibe on loan from Monaco with a permanent option, which tides the Toffees over perfectly until next summer, when Kenny’s decision will become clear.
If he impresses in Germany and wants to stay with Schalke, Everton can simply sign Sidibe as his replacement, with a deal already in place. If he wants to come back after impressing, Everton can send Sidibe back to Monaco, meaning they’ve got real flexibility with the situation in what looks like a smart plan by Brands and co.
