Shelvey has warned that the current campaign will be construed as a ‘complete failure’ if the Magpies do not earn promotion this season.

Speaking to the Chronicle, Newcastle United star Jonjo Shelvey has stated his belief that the Magpies simply have to earn promotion into the Premier League this season.
Newcastle suffered a devastating relegation into the Championship but it is clear to see that the Magpies are intent on earning promotion back to the Premier League in the first attempt this season.
The Tyneside-based outfit splashed the cash to sign no fewer than 12 new players over the summer and in addition, the club have been able to keep hold of the services of a high-profile manager such as Rafael Benitez.

Considering the huge investment on new players, Newcastle are overwhelming favourites to win promotion this term but it has to be said that the division is extremely unpredictable and the Magpies will surely need to do well in order to earn the coveted place in the Premier League.
Midfielder Shelvey is well aware of the fact that his side earning promotion is not assured and warned that failure to earn a place back into the Premier League this season will be construed as a ‘complete failure’ for the Magpies.

The 24-year-old told the Chronicle, “In my opinion, if we don’t go up, it’s a complete failure. When you look around at the dressing room and see the players we’ve got, we’ll have failed if we don’t get promoted.
“There are people here who have been there and done it, and there’s a lot of Premier League players in that changing room. Some of them have taken a step down to play in the Championship for Newcastle, so if we don’t go up, it’s a complete failure.”
