Speaking to Stadium Astro, Jonjo Shelvey has been speaking about the atmosphere at St James’ Park after the takeover at Newcastle.

Results on the pitch may not have improved for Newcastle since they were taken over, but the feeling around the club is certainly a lot more positive now.

The stadium is rocking again, and there’s no longer a dark cloud hanging over the club.

Shelvey claims that the atmosphere around the club was becoming horrible before Mike Ashley sold up, but he says it’s a lot better now.

What’s Shelvey said?

Shelvey was speaking about the Newcastle fanbase and the atmosphere around the club recently.

“Yeah, luckily I’ve been able to play for both Liverpool and Newcastle and I agree with you there (about both people from both cities being friendly), it was becoming a little bit horrible before the new owners came in, but ever since then it’s been back to what you associate Newcastle with. The people are so friendly up here and they live and die for the football, as long as we don’t forget that as a team and put it in every week, that’s all they ask of you, so you have to keep doing that. In terms of the atmosphere at the stadium, it’s a lot better,” Shelvey said.

Improved

The Newcastle takeover may not have had much of an affect in terms of results or league standing as of yet, but you can already see how much the atmosphere has improved around the club.

The Magpies have one of the most loyal and passionate fanbases in world football, but under Ashley, the club’s lack of progress made it really hard for fans to show their love for the club.

However, now, things are looking up, there is hope for the future and, perhaps most importantly, Ashley is gone.
