Newcastle United are out of the Carabao Cup after a penalty shootout defeat to Leicester City.

Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has told The Chronicle that he won’t be taking penalties any more after failing from the spot against Leicester City.
The Magpies were in Carabao Cup action on Wednesday evening, hosting Leicester at St James’ Park for a spot in the third round.
Leicester went in front in the first half as James Maddison’s free kick was deflected past Karl Darlow for the opening goal of the game.
Newcastle did find a response though, as Yoshinori Muto scored from close-range after Jetro Willems’ comical dive inside the penalty area.
The game ended 1-1, meaning penalties were the decider, as both Isaac Hayden and Shelvey had their efforts saved by Kasper Schmeichel.
Fans were obviously gutted to bow out in such crushing fashion, and Shelvey decided to come out and apologise to Newcastle supporters for his penalty failure.

Shelvey admitted that it was a ‘shocking’ penalty, and claims he won’t be taking them ever again, which Newcastle fans will probably be happy with.
“I want to apologise to the fans for missing the penalty,” said Shelvey. “It was a shocking penalty on my behalf. I won’t be taking them any more. I just wanted to come out and apologise to the fans,” he added.
