According to CalcioMercato, Liverpool are interested in signing Allan Saint-Maximin this summer.

To be honest, it was only a matter of time before the big clubs started sniffing around the French winger. After all, he’s an absolutely electric player and he stands out every single time Newcastle play.

However, is he good enough to play for a club of this calibre? Well, former Liverpool midfielder Jonjo Shelvey certainly thinks so.

Indeed, on the Studs Up Podcast earlier this year, Shelvey claimed that Saint-Maximin is in fact good enough to play for a club like Real Madrid.

What’s been said?

Shelvey had nothing but good things to say about his Newcastle teammate.

“Yeah he’s different gravy, you can just give him the ball and he just, sometimes he holds onto it for well too long, but he’s got the ability to go on to play for your Real Madrid’s without fail,” Shelvey said.

“He’s had his issues with his hamstrings and he’s been injured and things like that, but he’s loved up here, he’s absolutely adored up here because he can just turn a game on its head.”

Makings of a star

Saint-Maximin certainly has the talent to star for a top club.

He’s a brilliant winger, he has an unbelievable amount of pace, he’s one of the most skilful players in the league and in recent times he’s developed a rocket of a shot.

However, he would need to adapt to play for a club like Liverpool.

Saint-Maximin is often a one-man show, attempting to dribble past four or five players whenever he gets onto the ball, but at a team like Liverpool, that wouldn’t fly.

He has the attributes needed to play for a top side, but he’d need to be refined by a top coach if he’s going to be a star.
