The Newcastle United star bagged two assists in the win over Brentford.
Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has told the club’s official website that he thinks that consistency is where he has improved most this season.
The midfielder has been in fine form at the beginning of this campaign, playing a key role in his side’s strong start.
He was impressive again on Saturday afternoon as he played a role in all three of the goals in the 3-1 win over Brentford.
It was an imperious display and helped his side to move up to second in the Championship table, at least temporarily.
Shelvey’s performances are showing marked improvement from last season when manager Rafa Benitez actually dropped him from the team.
And he says he thinks he has found that consistency that was lacking beforehand.
“I’m really enjoying my football,” he told the club’s official website.
“Since I’ve come here I’ve not really had the consistency in my game, and I feel that this season it’s really picked up, and long may it continue.
“I think that’s a motivational thing as well as a physical thing, but I feel I’m in the best shape I’ve ever been in, so it was only a matter of time before I started putting the performances together.”
A look at the stats certainly shows that Shelvey has been in superb form so far this season.
His five assists is the most managed in the entire division, while his tally of 27 key passes is the most managed by any Newcastle player.
Those are impressive numbers and means he has already bettered the tally he managed in his 15 games for the club in the Premier League last season.
The Magpies will be praying he can keep it up, with his form looking likely to play a key role in their promotion hopes.
