Jonathan Woodgate has told TalkSPORT that he believes West Ham hero Jarrod Bowen would be perfectly suited to Liverpool. Bowen is being linked with an England call-up, after a brace for the Hammers on Wednesday.
Bowen, 25, has clocked up 18 goal involvements in 30 league and cup appearances this season – scoring eight and creating 10 for the Hammers. In his last four Premier League games, he has scored two and created four.
The £20million signing from Hull City is shining for the Hammers under David Moyes, netting both goals in a 2-0 win over Norwich on Wednesday. He is also a player that has been regularly linked with a move to Liverpool.
Eurosport report that Bowen is seen as the ‘perfect’ replacement for Mo Salah at Liverpool – if the Egyptian does end up leaving. Woodgate, having watched Bowen shine on Wednesday, thinks he would be ideal for the Reds.
“He’d fit into the Liverpool system. He’s good enough. He’s improved every step that he has made. We’re talking about England – he would get that pressure. Can West Ham keep hold of him, even this month? Money talks.”
Woodgate on Bowen: How much should West Ham charge Liverpool?
Bowen is right up there when it comes to goal involvements in the Premier League this season. In 21 league games, Bowen has scored five times and created nine – even though he has completed 90 minutes just 10 times.
Signed for £20million, the Hammers are well within their rights to charge double. But given Bowen is in the form of his life, only 25 and English, the Hammers might understandably want even more than double.
Liverpool need to strike a deal quickly before his value goes any higher. With Sadio Mane and Mo Salah both at the African Cup of Nations, perhaps it makes most sense for Liverpool to bring in Bowen this month.
TransferMarkt claim Bowen is represented by the same agency that looks after Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson.
