Jonathan Woodgate has told Match of the Day 2 that Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho would be the perfect fit at Liverpool. It comes after heaping huge praise on the England winger, after the win over Leeds.
Sancho, 21, has endured a difficult first season at Manchester United. A big-money signing from Borussia Dortmund last term, the England man has struggled to live up to his enormous price tag. He has scored just four times.
But on Sunday afternoon, Sancho was superb. His pace and trickery was too much for Leeds – laying on two assists in their 4-2 win over rivals Leeds. It was arguably his best performance of the season for the Old Trafford side.
Woodgate heaped praise on the ex-Dortmund man in his analysis of Sancho, stating he needed that time to settle in to get to the form he is now showing. Woodgate also said that Sancho would be perfect for Liverpool.
“He was exceptional at Dortmund. You need a little bit of time to settle in,” Woodgate said. “You need a manager to believe in you. He is starting to play a lot of games, and he is starting to show what he can do.
“You need that time to settle in. At Manchester United at the minute, it hasn’t been great at the minute. Tell you what, he would be an unbelievable player for Liverpool him. He would fit into their system perfectly.”
Woodgate on Sancho: Liverpool no longer need Manchester United man
Of course, Sancho was linked with Liverpool given the Jurgen Klopp, Dortmund connection, before his move to United. But do Liverpool need the England man now? Probably not, especially after the Reds signed Luis Diaz.
Diaz scored on Saturday in a 3-1 win over Norwich City, and has already endeared himself to supporters. His work rate, his tricks, his footwork, his end product. He is a brilliant signing for Klopp’s men.
Liverpool boast Diaz, Sadio Mane, Mo Salah and other options in the final third. Sancho would of course, be a brilliant signing and would fit in at Anfield. But they do not need him, and United will certainly not sell.
