Aston Villa striker Jonathan Kodjia scored in their most recent fixture against Brentford.
Jonathan Kodjia has told the Birmingham Mail that he had no qualms with playing out wide in Aston Villa’s latest match against Brentford.
Kodjia was Villa’s most expensive summer signing, but the 26-year-old was not chosen to start up-front by Di Matteo in midweek.
Kodjia was instead given an unfamiliar role as a winger, but he still managed to impress.
The Ivorian cut inside and lashed home from range to score the opener, and Kodjia admits he is happy to play in any position.
“I’ve not played too many matches from wide midfield, so the gaffer has today picked me to play wide so I said ‘OK, no problem’ and tried my best for the team,” he said.
“I can play right, through the middle or left. It is good for me.”
Despite Kodjia’s excellence, Villa could not hold on to beat Brentford in what was a frustrating game.
A late equaliser from John Egan meant that the points were shared between the sides, and the pressure remains on Villa.
The Claret and Blues have started the campaign slowly, and currently sit in 17th place in the Championship table.
Villa are next in action against Ipswich Town, and it seems likely that Kodjia will be given a more familiar striking role in that match.
