The striker was in danger of getting lost in the shuffle at Villa with big money strikers signed in the summer, while new boss Steve Bruce is also expected keen to bring in his own recruits.
One of the players signed in the summer was Jonathan Kodjia, and the former Bristol City striker was quick to wish Gestede well, paying tribute to his now ex-teammate via Twitter.
Villa were by no means desperate to cut Gestede loose but this was a deal which suits all parties.
The striker gets another crack at the Premier League, this time in a more competitive side than he had last season, while Villa get a decent amount of cash which can be reinvested into signing players who would potentially become first choice options for Steve Bruce.
